Since January 2015 we have partnered with Mexico’s National Institute of Cardiology “Ignacio Chávez”, a leading institution of cardiovascular research in Latin-America, to develop the first ever coronary stent designed and produced in Mexico for the Latin-American Market. Our team of engineers has been working together with a group of interventional cardiologists to design a series of L605 cobalt-chrome alloy stents with specific clinical and mechanical performance requirements. The first prototypes are to be implanted in animals for clinical testing beginning May 2016. GSE Biomedical’s CEO Dr. Galaz leads the design engineering and production of the stents along with Dr. Arturo Abundes, head of the hemodynamic services at the Institute of Cardiology. Part of this project was successfully funded through a CONACYT grant in 2016.
